In July 2025, Jakarta became a strategic meeting point for journalists, media leaders, policymakers, researchers, and technology actors from across the Asia-Pacific region. CTRL+J APAC 2025, convened by the Association of Indonesian Online Media (AMSI) and the Alliance of Independent Journalists Indonesia (AJI) in collaboration with the International Fund for Public Interest Media (IFPIM), brought diverse stakeholders together to engage in a shared conversation about the future of journalism amid the rapid acceleration of artificial intelligence and digital disruption.
Over three intensive days, discussions unfolded openly and critically by addressing the structural challenges facing independent media today, including economic pressures, power imbalances with dominant digital platforms, and the growing risks to the value of journalistic work in the age of AI. Beyond diagnosing problems, CTRL+J APAC served as a space to articulate collective responses and practical pathways to ensure journalism remains relevant, sustainable, and firmly rooted in the public interest.
This report captures the key ideas, lessons, and action-oriented directions that emerged from the dialogue. It reflects a shared commitment not only to adapt to technological change, but to shape it as well as advancing a more equitable, sovereign, and integrity-driven information ecosystem in the era of artificial intelligence.
